Acend KOWO's insights into the PUBG Global Championship
2023-11-08

In the PUBG Global Championship 2023, starting on November 18th, 32 Teams from 4 regions will compete for over 2.000.000$ in prize Pool.

I'm Kowo, coach of Acend Club, and here are my thoughts on PGC:

Americas:

LG has looked good after replacing Kickstart with M1Me, but just like SSG and LGC still have to prove themselves internationally. Soniqs and Falcons are in the opposite situation: Good international performances, sometimes lacking regionally

EMEA:

With Twisted Minds collecting a crazy amount of PGC points, Howl and Exalt were able to slip into PGC despite underwhelming performances in the later part of the year.

FAZE and FUT esports have looked very good in EMEA, but while FaZe hasn't performed internationally, this FUT roster hasn't yet managed to qualify to an international event. Acend Club managed a second place at PGS1, but have been consistently average since.

APAC:

As the Host Nation, Thailand gets to send 3 teams this year: Winner of PTS2 Theraton 5, long time staple Daytrade and underdog Purple Mood. Vietnam is sending Cerberus esports, a fragging powerhouse I expect to do well, and Genius esports. Genius is a roster of proven players and the (sometimes too young) young gun Clories, that haven't quite managed to qualify to an international this year.

EXO clan has managed to qualify for another global, barely beating out Fury. PMA esports kicked out Xavage Men (former GEX), and E36 is representing Japan.

ASIA:

As always, Asia is looking like a strong region coming into the global championship, but those looks have been deceiving in the past.

The teams from China have almost all undergone roster changes. 4AM picked up two New Happy players after PGS1, Pero has recently picked up Summer as their IGL, and Tianba has just dropped Longskrr - allegedly because he was trialing for 17 Gaming. Then you have Tyloo, young guns with crazy individual skill, and the wildcard team Shen Yi Xin Long.

Korea is the Danawa show, with Veronica 7 and GENG trying to keep up. Pentagram and Dplus Kia round out the Korean teams.

My favorites:

From all four regions, the teams that have really stuck out are the 4 qualified through PGS Points. Twisted Minds, 17 Gaming and DNW have been dominating their own regions and placing at the top internationally, with Soniqs taking the crown in the recent PGS2. An honorable mention is Cerberus, who consistently place well at global events.

The format:

The format is almost the same as in 2022, but the grand survival stage with WWCD format has been replaced by a longer Last Chance Stage. Less randomness is something all players and many viewers love to see!

The Groups

With 17 and Soniqs being in separate groups, there will be no Pochinki /Pecado contest, which is also true for PERO and TWIS. Overall, the groups allow most teams to play their own game without too many problems. Tianba and Danawa especially are quite contested in their lootspots, but I would expect them to arrange themselves peacefully.
