UPDATE October 20 @ 14:00 CEST: Bumble Squad has withdrawn from the PEC: Fall Grand Finals and will be replaced by the next-best performing team from the Playoff stage, Exalt.
The Grand Finals of the PUBG EMEA Championship: Fall kick off this weekend! Catch all of the action on our Twitch and YouTube channels from 18:00 CEST on Oct 20 - 22.
PEC: Fall is the last chance for EMEA teams to qualify for the biggest tournament of the PUBG Esports calendar and the decider of this year’s World Champions, PGC 2023.
There are two main ways for teams to qualify for PGC through regional tournaments - win PEC: Fall, or place in top five for overall PGC Points awarded throughout the year. As PEC: Fall awards the most PGC Points of any regional event this year, the PGC Qualification is still all to play for!
Here’s a look at some of the teams competing in the PEC: Fall Finals, and who’s best positioned to qualify to PGC:
Already Qualified
So far, the only team from EMEA already qualified for PGC is Twisted Minds. They qualified through their dominant performances in PGS 1 & 2. Crucially, their qualification through PGS Points does not affect the number of qualification slots still up for grabs in the EMEA region - so six EMEA teams will qualify to PGC in addition to Twisted Minds, who have their own separate slot.
The Top Contenders
While any team participating in the Finals has a chance to qualify for PGC by winning PEC: Fall outright, these four teams are some of EMEA’s best. Not only do they all stand a good chance of winning the championship, they occupy some of the top spots on the PGC Points leaderboard - so you can expect to see at least some of these teams in Bangkok.
FUT Esports have already all but qualified for this year’s final tournament, currently holding the most PGC points overall. It would take a mountain to stop them from qualifying at this stage.
HOWL returns to the PUBG EMEA Championship hot off the heels of their dramatic win at PEC: Spring. Even if they don’t keep up their already blistering momentum for PEC: Fall, it’s highly likely we’ll see them in Bangkok as they currently have the second highest amount of PGC Points.
Acend have certainly proven their pedigree this year - with strong second place finishes in both PEC: Fall and PGS 1. This is a team that can overcome EMEA’s best - and as long as they can put up a halfway decent performance in the PEC: Fall finals, they should breeze their way to a PGC ticket.
While in fifth place in the overall PGC standings, FaZe Clan has had a phenomenally strong start to their tournament in the PEC: Fall playoffs, finishing in first place in the Upper Bracket. EMEA has something of a trope that the teams who are dominant in the Playoffs stage tend to stay dominant throughout the Finals - if FaZe can accomplish this, a ticket to PGC is easily within reach for the superstar squad.
In With A Good Chance
The above teams all have a good chance of making it to Bangkok, but they’ll need to have a great tournament run and finish in one of the top spots if they want to secure a ticket to PGC.
Breakout MEA stars Digital Athletics are closest to qualification here, currently sitting at sixth on the overall PGC Points leaderboard. Just below them on the table, reigning World Champions Natus Vincere have had a slow start to the year so far, but are aiming for new heights with the addition of Feyerist to the roster. With a top finish in the Finals, either team could easily gain enough points to be in qualification range, depending on other teams’ performances.
Question Mark, Sarvem Esports and Entropiq are slightly further from qualifying, but are still within touching distance of Digital Athletics and NAVI - if any of them can get a podium finish in the Finals, there is still a very strong chance that they could make it to PGC.
As a side note, even though Exalt didn’t qualify for the PEC: Fall Finals, there is still a chance that they could win a ticket to PGC - as they currently occupy the 4th top spot in the PGC points leaderboard.
The Dark Horses
The remaining six Grand Finals teams are below 10th place in the PGC Points standings. Even though they can’t qualify through the PGC Points leaderboard, one of them could absolutely still go to PGC if they can make it all the way to the top spot and become the PEC: Fall Champion this weekend.
Tune in to find out who will make it all the way to Bangkok for PGC 2023!
