PCS5 Week 1

In PCS5, the Top 8 teams at the end of the week score cash prizes, and every little bit counts in the long run as the team with the most cash is crowned Champion!

There’s plenty to review in PCS5 Week 1. Let’s check out each region’s current Prize Ranking and how that might affect the PGC Point standings if it plays out. Get ready - PCS5 Week 2 will start on September 23rd with APAC and Americas region and go on thru September 26th!

APAC

After the first 12 matches in PCS5 APAC, Unicorn Phoenix Da Nang found themselves at the top of the leaderboard! Even though the WWCD count was evenly split at the end of Day 1, the squad came out swinging with 61 kills, a 30+ kill lead over 2nd place, heading into Day 2.

Even as Bao Nam United scored a back-to-back Chickens in Day 2, Unicorn Phoenix Da Nang squeezed one more win to tie the Chicken count and continued dominating in kills!

PGC Point Analysis

In APAC, the PCS5 Championship means that the winning team automatically goes to PGC 2021, joining the PCS4 Champion team Buriram United Esports! With 4 seats still available for APAC after the PCS4 and PCS5 Champions, the remaining 4 PGC invites will go to the team with the most points from TH, VN, and then 2 seats to the next teams in PGC Point lead.

On the current PGC Point standing, Sharper Esport (63), Daytrade Gaming (54), and Attack All Around (44) lead the Thailand sub-region while Boa Nam United (128) leads Vietnam! Thailand is FIERCE for the PCS5 showing to get their ticket.

Still, FURY (160) and ArkAngel Predator (106) have to hold their positioning towards the top to be included for PGC consideration!

Americas

The Americas region came out with guns blazing as usual in the PCS5 Americas Grand Final. At the end of Day 1, Soniqs were the only team to have 2 Chicken Dinners staying ahead of the pack per usual strategy. Right behind them were Spacestation Gaming, Wildcard Gaming, Gascans, and Sistematicos!

As soon as Spacestation Gaming challenged the Soniqs for the 2-tie Chicken Dinner, Soniqs score their 3rd WWCD and would be the only Americas team to do so in Week 1!

PGC Point Analysis

In the Americas, the PCS5 Championship means that the winning team automatically goes to PGC 2021! Soniqs (605) have a dominating PGC Point lead and can play PCS5 strategically if needed. The remaining seats will go to the leading team in the sub-region who doesn’t win PCS5 (LATAM or NA), and then the overall next 4 PGC Point leaders.

On the current PGC Point standing, Oath (565), TSM FTX (440), Dodge (325) and Dignitas (270) lead the PGC Points. The first listed LATAM team is Fiumba (210), meaning that a win and clever play from Sistematicos or Synergy Esports can disrupt Fiumba’s chances!

The way the current PCS5 Americas Prize Rank stand, Spacestation Gaming (190) is priming themselves for a large PGC Point addition to shake up the PGC invitations!

Asia

You can never predict ASIA region’s outomce - one of the most skilled regions in PUBG Esports. That rang true in PCS5 Asia Week 1 where Veronica7, a team with last-minute roster changes and little-known information, absolutely shredded the competition followed by Change the Game! At the end of Day 1, Veronica7 was the only team with 2 Chicken Dinners and small kill point lead. By the end of Day 2, 9 teams had Chicken Dinners, but only 1 team had 3 WWCDs - Veronica7!

The usual favorites, Gen.G, Petrichor Road, Multi Circle Gaming, GHIBLI Esports, found themselves in the mid-pack at the end of Week 1!

PGC Point Analysis

In Asia, PCS5 performance is EVERYTHING as the most fiercely contested region in PGC Points. The current standings are tight with Petrichor Road (200), GHIBLI Esports (120), KaiXin Esports (96), Multi Circle Gaming (80), MaD Clan (64), and Danawa e-sports (46) leading the chart. Fortunately, Asia receives 12 tickets to PGC 2021 with Gen.G and NewHappy having secured their PWS: East Asia Phase 2 and PCL Summer titles, respectively.

Still, 2 tickets are awarded to the leading Chinese Taipei and Japan teams with a whole 8 tickets left for the overall PGC Point leaderboard.

It’s anyone’s game and Gen.G seems to take advantage of their PGC spot by stacking cash and disrupting their competition in the process!

Europe

The PCS Europe Grand Finals always leave for a magical series of matches. The returning Champions, Virtus.pro cemented themselves as heavy contenders by being the only team with 2 Chicken Dinners at the end of Day 1. A repeating fact that we’re seeing in other regions!

Although Virtus.pro didn’t score a Chicken Dinner in Day 2, they continued their kill point lead as BBL Esports and Digital Athletics tied the WWCD count. In an amazing turn of events, BBL Esports TIES with Virtus.pro on Chicken Dinners and Kill Points, but Virtus.pro takes the lead in tie-breaker decision!

PGC Point Analysis

Similar to Americas and APAC, the PCS5 Europe Grand Final Championship team automatically goes to PGC 2021! In Europe, 8 seats are available with Europe West, Europe East, Middle East and Africa each taking 1 spot. The remaining spots default to overall PGC Points!

Virtus.pro (815) has a HUGE lead on the PGC Points standings, so can take PCS5 easy if they choose but seems unlikely! Still, they’re in a position to disrupt the biggest competitors on PGC Points - Team Liquid (415), NAVI (315), Heroic (275), ENCE (260), Entropiq (250) and FaZe Clan (215).

It’s too soon to tell how PGC will unfold for Europe - so keep a close eye on the latest from PUBG Esports!

PCS5 Week 1 PEPS+

PEPS+ highlights players and teams in the lobby post-event, ranking players against each other in battle typing and statistics. It’s the PUBG devs way of sharing playstyles, patterns, and more with the PUBG Esports fans! Watch the stand-out players and play like a pro the next time you drop into the Battlegrounds!

PEPS+ APAC

Sometimes the team is just on point, and PCS5 APAC’s Unicorn Phoenix Da Nang held back no punches! They’re playing consistently with strong averages across the board! Staying center on the circle, targeting early and flexible drops. On playstyle as a whole, the squad is almost 50/50 in playing close or split, utility or attack items, defensive or offensive, and securing points on both maps in placement and kills!

PCS5 APAC Week 1 - Top Overall Player

In PUBG Esports, it’s a team effort but wow - does Fludd steals the show! Boasting huge stats compared to the lobby, Fludd drops a 100 in Survival, Firepower, Tactics, Teamplay, and Combatability- huge offensive stats in PCS5! FURY needs the win and the fan support is cheering them on!

PEPS+ Americas

The PCS3, PCS4, and PGI.S Championship team Soniqs is not slowing down in PCS5 as TGLTN, hwinn, Shrimzy and M1ME lead the lobby in kills, downs, assists, etc. We’re running out of things to say - the team is just cracked and the PEPS+ supports it.

Soniqs play center and other than that, they just dominate.

PCS5 Americas Grand Final Week 1 - Top Overall Player

TGLTN continues his reign - grabbing attention from each region and calls as “the best player in PUBG 2021.” At the end of Week 1, TGLTN led the lobby individually in Top Kills, Damage, Assists, AND Knocks. With a 100 in Finishing, Teamplay, Potential, Combatability, and Firepower - it’s easy to understand why.

PEPS+ Asia

Rising from the shadows and decimating PCS5 Asia Week 1 - it’s the unknown Veronica7! Consisting of Corn, Americano, Tosi, and Heaven, this squad fought hard for their Week 1 Weekly Winner WIN! Battle stats are average, but playstyle type leans centralized, early drops, tight formations, and equally explosive in short or long combat, Miramar or Erangel, and defensive or offensive play!

PCS4 Asia Week 1 - Top Overall Player

Gen.G’s Inonix is a familiar face in PCS5 Asia - working to destroy teams with Pio and the crew. Inonix broke through the barriers as the Top Overall player in PCS5 Asia Week 1 by fragging out from the outside circle, covering angles on the team, and leaning into kills. Inonix scored upper-90s on almost all battle stats and was truly cracked in Week 1. Watch out for the Gen.G upswing in Week 2 and Week 3/

PEPS+ Europe

As a whole, Virtus.pro held onto the PCS5 Europe Week 1 win with a sliver of HP! We know they’re generally strong contenders, so Europe seems to be coming up to their level in PCS5! In Most Chicken format, Survival is key - that’s Virtus.pro’s strong suit! They lean into placements of course, with a centralized playstyle - almost always in tight squad form.

PCS4 Europe Grand Final Week 1 - Top Overall Player

Even as Virtus.pro destroyed the leaderboard, it was Heroic’s PaG3 that brought the fire in PCS5 Europe Week 1! The leaderboards are too close to tell in PCS5 Europe Grand Finals, so keep an eye out for Heroic in Week 2. They’re hungry for the PGC Points!
