The roster defeated 15 other countries to claim their share of the $500,000 USD prize pool, here is exactly how it went down in each of the 20 matches they played in at PNC 2022
There could only ever be one winner… congratulations Team UK!!!
From the military bases of Erangel to the rolling hills of Miramar, the squad bravely battled to outmaneuver their opponents and finish top of the leaderboard – meaning Fexx, vard, TeaBone and mykLe are heading home with $100,000 of the $500,000 prize pool!
In classic PUBG esports fashion, the roster didn’t have it all their own way. It was a turbulent event with the likes of Finland, Brazil, and Vietnam all in contention at one point to take home the prestigious PUBG Nations Cup 2022 trophy.
Here’s a blow-by-blow account of exactly how the UK rose to the top to make that title their own!
DAY 1
Match 1
At any major PUBG Esports event it’s important to hit the ground running. Although it’s a marathon and not a sprint, putting valuable points on the board early is a great foundation for success. Team UK do just that with a solid performance finishing in third behind Australia and Finland. And so it begins!
Match 2
Confidence breeds confidence and the roster build on their opening performance to claim their first victory of the tournament. Led by TeaBone, who takes six kills, it is a real team performance as Fexx, vard and mykLe also secure six kills between them.
Match 3
Despite finishing in second place to Brazil, this is perhaps the most impressive performance of the day. Team UK are in blistering form and take an outrageous 18 kills… vard leads the way with nine eliminations.
Match 4
What goes up must come down, UK whimper out in 14th place in the fourth match of the day. Their loss is Finland’s gain who pick up the win.
Match 5
It’s a case of de ja vu as once again the UK is eliminated in 14th place and Finland are on hand to pick up the win and propel themselves up the table into first. It’s clear for all to see that we have a title race on our hands as the UK tail them by five points with Brazil just behind.
DAY 2
Match 6
The roster drop into El Azahar and make their way towards an eastern circle that centers around Chumacera. Unfortunately, it’s an underwhelming match for the squad who are taken out by a devastating grenade/bullet combo from a ruthless Korean side. Eventual winners Brazil leapfrog the UK into second place.
Match 7
It’s 10th place again for the UK as Argentina and Chinese Taipei take the top two spots. Luckily for them their closest rivals fail to make up much ground. Deadlock at the top.
Match 8
Isn’t three meant to be a magic number? The UK completes a hattrick of 10th place finishes and – concerningly for the team – Brazil takes its second win of the day to climb to the top of the overall leaderboard.
Match 9
The UK and Brazil trade blows early in a smokey Stalber, each taking valuable kills, with the Brazilians coming out on top. A 15th place finish confirms the UK roster are following a worrying trend and fans begin to wonder if they’ve peaked too early.
Match 10
And they are back! It’s a much-needed quality performance from the UK who skillfully navigate a southwestern circle to find themselves in a 4v3 against a dangerous Australian side. mykLe and Fexx share the honors to eliminate their opponents and win their first dinner of the day. A welcome result that sees them in second place overall.
DAY 3
Match 11
The UK clean up once again! An intelligent display climaxes with an intense showdown against a Vietnam squad who are eventually put to the sword courtesy of a brutal TeaBone grenade and a sharp shot from Fexx. There is now a 4-point gap between leaders Brazil and Team UK… Finland sit in third place.
Match 12
A dramatic battle with Indonesia sees the UK wipe the APAC representatives, but they come away from the showdown heavily wounded and look to be heading from the lobby. However, a disciplined performance means the nation finish in third place, enough to see them secure a 10-point lead over closest rivals Brazil at the top. Fans can begin to dream!
Match 13
A classic encounter in the hunt for the trophy as the UK, Brazil and Vietnam make the final three. TeaBone and mykLe decide to dispatch themselves back to the lobby, robbing their opponents of important kill points. A focused Brazil claim what could be a tournament-defining Chicken Dinner. The sides are now neck and neck on 139 points each.
Match 14
Brazil and the UK can barely be separated both on the overall leaderboard and the Battlegrounds of Miramar. This is turning into a famous rivalry as the squads finish in third and fourth respectively, something has to give soon.
Match 15
A dramatic drop in performance sees Brazil crash out first in Match 15 leaving the UK with a huge chance to make some ground on their Americas rivals. Unfortunately for the roster they can only muster an eighth place finish. At the end of Day fourUK lead the way by nine points… Brazil, Vietnam and Korea complete the chasing pack.
DAY 4
Match 16
Top of the scoreboard by nine points with Brazil hot on their tail, it’s a difficult start for the UK as TeaBone is eliminated early, followed quickly by mykLe and vard. Against the odds, Fexx outlives several teams and walks away with third place and critical placement points. Meanwhile, Brazil are eliminated in eighth, and the gap between first and second grows wider.
Match 17
The UK team drop into Miramar within touching distance of the trophy, four absolutely vital matches to go. 12 kills later and they’re a step closer, another Chicken Dinner tossed in the pile and without losing a single member of their squad. The gap is now 34 points… within touching distance of an epic success.
Match 18
An anticlimactic match for the leaders, eliminated by China in 10th place after picking up just two kills. Brazil finish in sixth place with 9 kills meaning it’s a 25-point gap. Comfortable…ish. Korea round up the top 3.
Match 19
In the penultimate match the UK take only one kill but bag points with a second-place finish to Vietnam. There’s a smile creeping across the players faces, the casters agree that they’re unlikely to be caught now.
Match 20
The US’ Shrimzy slows down the title party slightly, fragging mykLe to ensure the UK finish in ninth place, but fans know it should be enough. Vietnam play a great game, securing a second Chicken Dinner on the bounce and catapulting themselves into second place, but cheers rise up from the UK corner as the tournament concludes. High fives all round, trophy on the way, THEY’VE DONE IT, THEY’RE CHAMPIONS.
It's been quite a journey, especially considering the UK finished 15th way back in PNC 2019 – a remarkable turnaround and one that will send shockwaves throughout the PUBG Esports world. Congratulations!
