Hot off the heels of BB Team’s groundbreaking win at PGS 8, we caught up with Molodoct to ask him some questions about the tournament, and dig deep into his team’s philosophy that led them to victory on the global stage.
Congratulations on your win at PGS 8! Let's go back to before PGS 8 even began - how did you and the team feel going into PGS 8? You had a very strong fourth place showing in PGS 7. Did that have an effect on the team's mentality - like a confidence boost?
Molodoct: Yes, of course, we exceeded our expectations at PGS 7 and felt confident because of it. We realized that we are now in a form that allows us to fight for higher places.
Lots of fans have pointed out that BB Team was super consistent throughout PGS 8. The team had a great Group Stage performance, which isn't always the case even among tournament winners. Does a top performance in the Group Stage require a different strategy, compared to the Grand Finals? What do you think was the main reason for BB Team's excellent consistency throughout the whole tournament?
Molodoct: I think that we were able to play consistently because we were able to adapt to other teams, we could foresee many of the teams' actions, and as for the group stage of PGS 8, I think that globally we didn't change anything, maybe we corrected some individual mistakes of the players.
You started the last day of the Grand Finals in third place - with just 7 points separating you from DN Freecs who were in first position. When you find yourself in these situations where victory is within touching distance, what do you see as your win condition? Do you prefer to play aggressively for as many kills as possible, or do you play to survive as long as you can (or something else)?
Molodoct: I think it is enough to understand that the gap in points is minimal and everything is in your hands, thanks to luck and good play in general we should have won. The only thing that could have stopped us was an even more successful and strong game from our opponents.
The end of the last game in the Finals was incredibly tense to watch - how did it feel for you when ADOUZ1E was the last teammate standing, and you had to watch to see if he could stay alive long enough to secure the tournament win? Were you guys talking with him to find the best path for survival, or did you cut comms in that moment?
Molodoct: We tried to help him, gave him some advice and information about other teams. But overall we were calm, realizing that victory could still be ours.
How does it feel to have won a PUBG Global Series event? Are you aiming to beat Twisted Minds' record of three back to back PGS wins - and who are your biggest rivals to beat for the next tournament?
Molodoct: As for the Twisted Minds team, they definitely did a miracle, but I believe that someday someone will make history by breaking their record, but I think this is not our main goal. In every tournament, our main rival is ourselves, so if we are confident in ourselves, not afraid of other teams, not discouraged by unsuccessful games, we will be able to show good results.
