Coaches of EMEA - Q&A
2023-09-13

Did you know that each nation’s team at this year’s PUBG Nations Cup will be accompanied by a coach?

Just like in other global PUBG Esports tournaments, the coach plays an important role in the success of their team - formulating strategies, identifying and correcting mistakes and making sure all of the team’s players are on the same page.

In fact, you might recognise some of this year’s coaches from their long and storied careers in the PUBG Esports scene. To find out more about what it takes to be a successful coach, we sat down with some of the coaches attending this year’s PNC.

How did it feel to be selected as coach by the four players representing your Nation?

Kowo, Team Germany

  • “It’s an absolute honor to be the coach of my nation, and I hope to make everyone proud”

Apocalyp, Team Türkiye

  • “First of all, I am very proud to represent my country. The fact that the players chose me means that they believe in me.”

MiracU, Team United Kingdom

  • “It's a great feeling to be selected as the Coach again for team UK, I am glad the UK players have trust in me to help them through this tournament!”

What's one thing your team will do at PNC better than anyone else?

Apocalyp, Team Türkiye

  • “I think strategically we will play with a better game plan. All of our opponents are strong but we are more ready.”

Wookiebookie, Team Denmark

  • “Despite us being from one of the smallest countries represented at PNC, we have a lot of elite level players with a cerebral understanding of PUBG. Being from a small country only brings us closer and leads to much better comradery than any of the other teams could ever dream of.”

Kowo, Team Germany

  • “We have the smartest IGL in the world, and three great players alongside him.”

What's the biggest challenge your team will need to overcome at PNC?

Wookiebookie, Team Denmark

  • “The biggest challenge our team will need to overcome at PNC is to not be pressured by our own expectations. Other teams are not necessarily considering us a threat. But I truly believe that if we play our game, we have what it takes to fight for the title.”

MiracU, Team United Kingdom

  • “Definitely adapting to all of the recent changes and additions to competitive PUBG! Mortars, Panzerfaust and the recently added map Vikendi to name a few.”

Apocalyp, Team Türkiye

  • “If we keep our focus, every game will be a road to the championship for us.”

Kowo, Team Germany

  • “It’s a very short tournament, so luck and momentum will play a great part – which we might have to overcome if the luck isn’t on our side”

Which nation do you think has the strongest roster?

Apocalyp, Team Türkiye

  • “In the scenario that I didn't include ourselves, I see Korea, Denmark and China as very strong. Of course, all other competitors are strong in their own right.”

Wookiebookie, Team Denmark

  • “I think South Korea has by far the best roster on paper, since they have a strong 4-man core from Danawa and the addition of Heaven. Besides South Korea, I believe Vietnam and the United States have really strong rosters.”

MiracU, Team United Kingdom

  • “Team UK, we are built different.”

What makes your country worth cheering for?

Wookiebookie, Team Denmark

  • “First of all we are a bit of an underdog at this event, being the smallest country participating. Despite our small size, we manage to have a roster with multiple superstar players from some of the best teams in Europe.”

MiracU, Team United Kingdom

  • “We won PNC last year, I am sure a lot of fans want to see if we can defend our title and win 2 years in a row!”

Kowo, Team Germany

  • “We’re a strong team, ready to make our fans proud, and we have good chances at winning the whole thing.”
