PCS4 Week 1 has come to a close with each region participating in the first 12 of 36 matches! We’re seeing a breadth of new strategies with familiar and underdog teams shaking up the leaderboard. Each region’s focus is on stacking Chicken Dinners to keep ahead of the pack. In the event that two teams share the same amount of chicken dinners, the team with the most kills pulls the W!
For PUBG Esports, the win is momentous and the kills are peripheral, but every “soon to be” Champion team needs to master both strategies to come out on top!
Don’t forget - YOU have multiple ways to win while supporting your favorite teams in PCS4, too. The Pick’Em Challenge is live with multiple events and challenges. During the broadcast, score EP and Voting Coupons by watching OR take advantage of the Chicken Challenge to pick a winning team for each match. If that team scores the Chicken in the match after your vote, you’ll get additional Esports Points. Which team is your tried and true for the Chicken Challenge?
In PCS4, the Top 8 teams in a region will be awarded cash prizes each week, leaving for multiple opportunities to stack cold hard cash. At the end of PCS4, a handful of accolades will award cash to players and teams as well. Stay tuned to find out who takes home these special awards!
There’s plenty that happened in PCS4 Week 1. Let’s review each region’s Week 1 Prize Ranking and match day highlights to get us into PCS4 Week 2, starting June 17th with APAC and the Americas.
At the end of PCS4 APAC’s first 12 matches, the Oceania region favorite FURY comes out on top! Followed closely behind is PCS3 APAC Champion, Buriram United Esports, and ArkAngel Predator from the Philippines! The money is nice, but a PCS4 Championship means teams can stack PGC Points for entry to PGC later this year!
Almost foreshadowing the 12 matches to come, PCS4 APAC Day 1 Match 1 started off with Fury taking the first kill of Week 1. Teams took it slow as they settled into the format, determined to master securing the Chicken Dinner. Fury pulled insane team saves in Match 1, setting the tone for their determination. At the end of Day 1, Fury and Buriram United Esports had 2 WWCDs with BN United and Eagle365 Esports nabbing the other two dinners of the 6 match day.
On PCS4 APAC Week 1 Day 2, Fury came out swinging again by cleaning up Daytrade Gaming in Match 7.ArkAngel Predator narrowly slides into 3rd place on the leaderboard as the only team with 2 WWCDs behind Fury and Buriram United Esports’ 3 WWCD.
The Americas region came out with guns blazing in their PCS4 Americas Grand Final. Match 1 of 12 for PCS4 Americas Week 1 was insanity with team pushes and an entertaining (and recurring) hot drop between Team Veritas and 22 Esports. At the end of Week 1, Soniqs pulled ahead into first to snag another $20,000. You would think they had enough during PGI.S?
Guadalajara Gascans takes home the first win with Soniqs and A CRECHE following up on WWCDs. By halftime though, Soniqs had 1 WWCD and 31 kills on the leaderboard - 11 kills ahead of the next team leading in kills, Trogloditas. It was clear that Soniqs was here to farm, but their WWCD skills also came to light. At the end of Day 1, 6 different teams had scored WWCDs - Soniqs, Dignitas, Dodge, Guadalajara Gascans, Spacestation Gaming, and A CRECHE. (Note: Before PCS4 Americas, a few new orgs joined the fray alongside Dignitas and Spacestation Gaming - Wildcard Gaming, TSM FTX, and eUnited.)
Heading into Day 2, Soniqs was leading the pack with a heavy 51-kill count from Day 1. Dignitas and Dodge held a close trail on Soniqs all of Day 2. A hard earned 2 WWCDs from Oath on Day 2 put them into 4th place.
One of the most looked forward to regions of PCS4, Asia did NOT disappoint! Although China’s KAIXIN E-Sports took the lead, their sub-region teams were in hot pursuit! GPS Ghibili, Danawa E-sports and MaD Clan from Korea were able to break into the Top 5 to prevent a full China shut-out. Right behind, ENTER.FORCE36, the team representing Japan, proudly took home some cash!
Map sense, player awareness, and skill is at an all time high in Asia. Players take daring jumps, peeks and positions in an effort to stay one step ahead of their competitors. KAIXIN E-Sports set the tone for Week 1 after their Match 1 WWCD! Similarly to the Americas, the first 6 Chicken Dinners were split amongst 6 teams: GPS Ghibili, KAIXIN E-Sports, Multi Circle Gaming, Petrichor Road, ENTER FORCE.36 and Games Forever Young.
KAIXIN E-Sports ended PCS4 Asia Week 1 as the only team to snag 3 WWCDs but by the skin of their teeth! GPS Ghibili is right behind with the kill advantage, but 1 WWCD shy. 9 teams celebrated at least 1 Chicken Dinner at the end of Week 1’s matches.
Bar the doors and stack up on mollies, PCS4 Europe is dropping in! Big plays from our teams surfaced in Match 1 but Virtus.pro stuck the landing by securing the first WWCD of PCS4 Europe Grand Final! A sure sign of what’s to come for the weekend.
The Day 1 leaderboard had Virtus.pro at the top with 1 WWCD and 45 kills, followed by RedLine, NAVI, BigBossLayf, EXhalatioN, and ENCE! Those teams held their footing throughout Week 1. Teams had shining moments, just check out our Twitter coverage of the event ;) From the Team Liquid and FIVE hot drop to BigBossLayf wreaking havoc on the lobby. Lu from Virtus.pro dropped ‘nade after nade - deleting competitors in the process
Team Liquid and FIVE shared the hot drop routine into Week 1 Day 2, looting their mutual spot for 12 out of 12 matches in PC4 Europe’s Week 1! Surely, this can’t go on forever? By the end of Day 2, Virtus.pro had the Chicken Dinner advantage and a MASSIVE kill lead over 2nd place. If there’s a team that looks like they’ve mastered this format, it’s Virtus.pro!
PEPS+ highlights players and teams in the lobby post-event, ranking players against each other in battle typing and statistics. It’s the PUBG devs way of sharing playstyles, patterns, and more with the PUBG Esports fans! Watch the stand out players and play like a pro the next time you drop into the Battlegrounds!
Sometimes the team is just on point, and PCS4 APAC’s FURY was ON POINT. Almost maxing out on the PEPS+ Team Average in Survival and Team Play means FURY understands this WWCD ruleset. Play together, play smart, and play to win! Usually, the team would drop early, playing the mid zone and leaning into offensive, ranged throwables. Interestingly enough, FURY ranked 70% offensive and 30% defensive which is a testament to their playstyle when the WIN is at stake!
PCS4 APAC Week 1 - Top Overall Player
In PUBG Esports, it’s a team effort but wow - does Ykikamucow steal the show in PCS4 APAC Week 1! Compared to the lobby, Ykikamucow scores a 100 in Combatability, Tactics, and Finishing - huge offensive stats in PCS4!
The PGI.S Championship team Soniqs is not slowing down so far into 2021 as TGLTN, hwinn, Shrimzy and M1ME lead the lobby in kills, downs, assists, etc. Seriously, where is the off button on this team? The Americas lobby is competitive clearly, as the bridge between first and second leading PEPS+ teams is close. Soniqs excels in Team Play and Tactics, playing as a unit and covering each other’s corners.
PCS4 Americas Grand Final Week 1 - Top Overall Player
TGLTN continues to defy the region in PCS4. At the end of Week 1, TGLTN led the lobby individually in Top Kills, Damage, and Knocks. On top of that, Shrimzy led the lobby in Assists - they’re a dynamic team but TGLTN continues to top the leaderboards. Just look at these stats!
On a whole, KAIXIN E-Sports fought hard for their Week 1 Weekly Winner WIN (say that 5 times fast)! Team Play and Survival, arguably the two important PEPS+ categories, rivaled the whole lobby - serving their $20,000 first place in Week 1! KAIXIN E-Sports plays an outward circle but balances on the timing of the drop. Usually, they’re playing close to each other on the offensive! Notably, they perform well on both Miramar and Erangel.
PCS4 Asia Week 1 - Top Overall Player
GPS Ghibili’s Renbad broke through the barriers as the Top Overall player in PCS4 Asia Week 1! Renba can push the limits against the top teams, lifting his team in the process. Overall, Renbad is a solid player boasting all angles in battle type and stats. Watch out for this fragger in the upcoming matches!
Virtus.pro dominated the lobby and it was made clear after Week 1 that they are here to fight for the PCS4 Europe Grand Final Championship! A strong contender in Survival and Tactics, Virtus.pro knows how to play the center circle - holding a patient drop pattern. Similarly to other teams in the Week 1 regional winners bracket, Virtus.pro plays the offensive in most scenarios!
PCS4 Europe Grand Final Week 1 - Top Overall Player
Even as Virtus.pro destroyed the leaderboard, it was NAVI’s xmpl that brought the fire in PCS4 Europe Week 1! Plenty of Europe’s teams can command the field, so keep an eye out for NAVI in Week 2. Which teams do you hope to see overcome the top spot?
