We look at how Europe’s eight teams got on at PGC 2021!
4 weeks and a bucket-load of memories later … Chinese roster NewHappy are crowned PUBG Global Championship 2021 champions. A massive congratulations to them!
It was also a month to remember for the eight Europe-based rosters who flew out to Incheon, Korea, to rub shoulders and compete with the very best in the PUBG Esports scene right now. There were celebrations, disappointments and everything in between over a high-intensity month of PUBG Esports action.
Let’s take a look at how the Europe teams got on!
Rank Decision
It was a strong start for Finnish roster ENCE who laid down a marker nice and early in Rank Decision taking three Chicken Dinners, 98 kills and 182 points on the way to finishing top of the leaderboard. Almost a third of those kills came from key man Rustanmar. Game on!
Fans also saw solid performances from Team Liquid, ENCE and Virtus.pro who all consistently finished within the top 4. Some interesting dynamics also developed as Virtus.pro repeatedly clashed with Danawa e-sports and Multi Circle Gaming.
Weekly Finals 1
HEROIC’s PaG3 stood out as one of the strongest performing players as he coolly swept across the map dismantling any opponents who stood in his way. Team Liquid’s jeemzz also gave fans a moment to remember with an explosive solo rampage where he took out four opponents whilst withstanding heavy pressure. At the end of the weekend it was Team Liquid and HEROIC who were Europe’s best performing teams, finishing in fourth and fifth place!
Weekly Finals 2
ENCE provided one of the most memorable moments of Match 4 on Miramar as they went toe-to-toe with eventual PGC 2021 Champions NewHappy. It was tense, with both rosters desperately scrambling to use their med kits effectively. In the end, ENCE managed to make it to safety and claim the Chicken Dinner at NewHappy’s expense!
Team Liquid and Korean roster GNL ESPORTS concluded the Weekly Finals drawn on points at the top, resulting in a tie-break which fell in Team Liquid’s favour awarding them the weekly title.
Weekly Finals 3
It was Natus Vincere’s turn to shine in Week 3 as they secured an impressive two Chicken Dinners to catapult themselves up to second in the weekly leaderboard. Elsewhere, HEROIC picked up a Dinner as well as a solid 40 kills putting some vital points on the table!
There were celebrations across the region as Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, HEROIC, Natus Vincere and ENCE all progressed to the PGC 2021 Grand Finals.
Grand Survival
There were four Grand Finals’ spots up for grabs heading into Grand Survival as FaZe Clan, Unique and BBL Esports still harbored ambitions of making the concluding weekend. With so much at stake it was naturally a tense affair for all taking part. In the end, there were to be no celebrations from Europe rosters as none were able to secure the Chicken Dinner required to progress.
Grand Finals
HEROIC finished the opening day top of the pile with an impressive 69 points - key player TeaBone was the day’s kill leader putting 19 on the scoreboard. Elsewhere, Team Liquid’s jeemzz shone once again, taking out three players with a single grenade in Match 3.
HEROIC impressed yet again on Day 2 picking up another match win and holding onto number one spot on the leaderboard at the end of the five matches. Their closest Europe-based competitor was Virtus.pro who sat in fifth place.
The final day went down to the wire as HEROIC and NewHappy entered the last match with the title within their grasps. NewHappy hot-dropped HEROIC immediately, somewhat setting the pace, but took the tactical decision not to engage. NewHappy were eliminated from the match in thirteenth place – meaning HEROIC needed to secure six points to be crowned champions. Unfortunately for HEROIC they came up short and NewHappy were announced the PGC 2021 Champions.
