PUBG Esports: Competitive vs Casual
2022-04-30

PUBG Esports is a little different to the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS play that we all know and love, here is how!

PUBG Esports is of course the competitive PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS ecosystem where teams from all corners of the world go head to head for the ultimate Chicken Dinners!

At first sight it seems similar to the classic game, but there are actually some key differences that you might not have noticed.

So if you’re looking to take your first leap into PUBG Esports, brush up on your knowledge during PCS6 Europe or are just generally intrigued… step this way to learn more!

Gimme the loot!

When it comes to PUBG Esports there are a little more key weapons and utility items that help players get into the thick of the action straight away. It quickens the pace somewhat and creates an environment that is more exciting for fans at home. So if you are wondering why your favorite rosters are looting assault rifles and DMRs a lot quicker than you and your buddies… now you know!

Faster circles

PUBG Esports competitive players know each map inside out and one of the challenges they face is putting that knowledge to good use in every single match. To keep players on their toes, and to create a pace that fans enjoy, the Blue Zone closes in at a much faster rate than classic PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. This has rosters frantically darting across the map and leads to exciting clashes.

Greater access to vehicles

Getting around the map quickly and finding a tactically advantageous safe spot – or rotating as it’s known in the pro scene – is critical in competitive play.  A greater selection of vehicles in more predictable locations helps players to travel to strategic areas easily… or make an emergency escape!

Miramar and Erangel

Whereas casual players jump into a full selection of PUBG Esports maps in all shapes and sizes, competitive tournaments are currently played on Miramar and Erangel only. They were the first two maps released for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and the ones that have been rigorously tested and optimized for pro-level play.

Exciting prize pools

One of the most significant differences between casual and competitive play is the prize pools that are at stake. They vary depending on the tournament, with larger events boasting pots up to seven figures. They give tournaments and matches that competitive edge, making those dinners that bit more valuable when your favorite rosters go head-to-head.

Squad play at major events

A key aspect of top tier tournaments is that players must compete in four-person squads which means no single or duo matches. This puts an added emphasis on tactics, communication and team cohesion and forces rosters to think as one!

Represent your nation

PUBG Esports is also the only place where players can officially represent their country. This comes in the form of the PUBG Nations Cup which takes place in Thailand in June 2022. The Europe-based teams represented at the event will be Finland, Germany, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Make sure you head over to Twitch and cheer them on!

PCS6 continues this Friday, May 6, at 19:00 CEST. For updates on all things PUBG Esports, be sure to check our Twitter and Instagram pages.
