Europe: GRAND FINAL PREVIEW
2022-11-16

The PUBG Global Championship 2022 is entering its final stage - the Grand Finals. Out of the 32 best teams from around the globe, 16 have qualified to fight for the title of PGC 2022 Champion and their share of the $2,000,000 prize pool. Europe is the most well-represented region at the PGC Grand Finals, with six out of a total of eight teams from the region making it through. Let’s take a closer look at how each team fared:

Natus Vincere

Natus Vincere have had the strongest showing of any Europe team so far. After a dominant victory in the Group Stage, they went on to secure a narrow victory in the Winners Bracket, beating out APAC’s Daytrade Gaming by just 2 points! NAVI has always been known as one of the strongest European teams but to come first in both the Group Stage and Winners Bracket is unprecedented and arguably sets them up as potential favorites to win the tournament outright.

Twisted Minds

Right behind Natus Vincere are Twisted Minds who have qualified to the Grand Finals following a fifth place finish in both the Group Stage and Winners Bracket. Throughout the year, the team has garnered a reputation for being Europe’s most consistently high-placing team and the trend seems to have continued thus far at PGC. As usual, Twisted Minds’ star IGL BatulinS leads his team in damage output.

Question Mark

After their impressive PCS7 victory, Question Mark qualified in the Group Stage with a respectable seventh place but were subsequently knocked out of the Winners Bracket. Just when it seemed like the team was faltering, the squad made a dramatic comeback and dominated Losers Bracket 2 with a first place finish and gained a well-earned spot in the Grand Finals.

OVERPEEKERS

Having already announced that the team would be splitting up after PGC, all eyes were on OVERPEEKERS for their final performance. After a strong start to their tournament - qualifying sixth in the Group Stage - OVERPEEKERS’ fortunes changed. First they were rdelegated to Losers Bracket 2 and then, failing once more to qualify, to the Grand Survival.

During the Grand Survival, OVERPEEKERS ended up in a 4-way final teamfight. Initially, it looked like Donuts USG were all but guaranteed to win the match, but a timely push from Entropiq leftset up OVERPEEKERS in a strong position, ultimately enabling them to win the match and claim the second qualification spot for the Grand Finals.

FaZe Clan

Although FaZe Clan did have some impressive games in the Group Stage, they eventually finished in the 14th place, failing to qualify for the Winners Bracket. In Losers Bracket 1, the team did put up a strong performance - ultimately finishing the stage in sixth - but narrowly missing out on the Grand Finals qualification. In spite of this, FaZe Clan made a momentous comeback with a victory in Match 3 of the Grand Survival, making it through to the finals.

Entropiq

Winning PCS6 but failing to qualify for PCS7, Entropiq were in dire need of a redemption story coming into PGC, and they certainly got it in the end. Their progression to the Grand Finals was very uncertain right until the very last moments of the last match in the Grand Survival where they finally overcame the odds, managing to win the final game of the day and thus securing their spot in the Grand Finals.

BBL Esports

The All-Turkish BBL Esports squad had a great start to their tournament, moving into the Winners Bracket following a strong fourth place finish in the Group Stage. The team’s fortunes changed in the Winners Bracket, where they placed 11th. BBL were able to pick up the pace in Losers Bracket 2 with a decent seventh place finish, though this fell just short of Grand Finals qualification, and unfortunately the team were unable to qualify through the Grand Survival stage.

Polish Power

Polish Power had a shaky start to their tournament with a last place finish in the Group Stage butand subsequently qualified to the Grand Survival by the skin of their teeth. Although they came within sheer inches of Grand Final qualification with a very strong second place finish in the final match of the Grand Survival stage, the last spot in the Finals ultimately that final spot would ultimately be claimed by Entropiq.
